Because violists are always late
Hi Everyone, let’s hope Sammy Branch doesn’t turn on his video. No one wants to see that
*awkward silence filled with cricket chirps*
Hey back off, I’ve been cutting my own hair since March lololol
Hunter, you look great!! Congrats
You are invited to a Zoom meeting now. Please register the meeting:https://tmea.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJYrc-mvqzMoHNeL_waFKvQeDqDlaI-aCC-hAfter registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
David, how do you have a virtual concert?
Did you record and put the songs together for a concert?
We have been told teachers will not have to teach both in persona and online. Therefore, "orchestra" will not likely be offered. Is anyone else struggling with this? Ideas for how to ensure we don't punish those kids who would prefer to stay home.
Thank you David!
Chris, can you do this on an iPad?
Final Cut Pro is the Mac application
LumaFusion is a pretty powerful video editing software for iPad
DaVinci Resolve is free editing software that works great as well.
OBS (Open Broadcasting Software) Cross platform. Editing and streaming.
This was one of our pieces - ugh it took forever
Would someone who has the document Mr. Needham created be willing to share with everyone?
Rodrigo Pessoa de Almeida
Any suggestion for video editing software for free or low cost? For windows
I have asked him for it and will post with the video of this meeting
OBS is free.
Thank you, Michael
40 hours sounds daunting - but if you’re lucky enough to have a well funded booster club, we hired out our virtual performance for $350. Just sent him recordings from the kids and he put it together for us, quick.
Do you have suggestions for programs where the kids are economically disadvantaged? I have a significant amount of kids with no access to technology other than an inexpensive cell phone or some without a cell phone at all.
Just another option.
Fantastic idea Brian!
Rodrigo Pessoa de Almeida
Preach it Brian!
Second what Teresa said
Check with your school district, which has many economically disadvantages students. Ours had a Chromebook checkout program to get students without access.
We purchased 10 of these cameras and let the students record at home and give us the cameras back. https://www.youngexplorers.com/itemdy00.aspx?T1=Y151007&srccode=NXCYC6&utm_source=google&utm_medium=comparison&utm_campaign=datafeed&source=pla&gclid=CjwKCAjwi_b3BRAGEiwAemPNU3hqTTKgV7W3ixN6TBzv6HWbtrynV3V6ROE0CpPGoZa5NL7cBW5jnxoCn2UQAvD_BwE
Chrome books will record using screencasity extension.
I-twist flip camera. You can find some for $35
They require a SD card but no internet access
Fort Worth purchased Hot Spots and had technology pickup also and also offered packets but success with this was mixed at best.
We put in our hard copy packets for students to call our school phones and leave their playing assignments as voicemails.
For those that did not have access to internet
Charter Communications (Spectrum):Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription and at any service level up to 100 Mbps. Yes! We reached out to several students who did not have internet access during the shutdown about spectrum free internet for students!
We have done something similar at Pearce (what Hunter is talking about). It works great but you just need breakout rooms. I'm not sure how it would work with other groups meeting at the same times. Practice rooms won't work because they are too small usually.
Please keep sharing ideas on the google doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DNm9zsvZL3trfyOhXwoTEPLVOVCVOi83HcubuLsQJ9k/edit?usp=sharing
I am taking a class on the professional zoom and it has breakout rooms.
You can slow down the playback speed without affecting the intonation of the track, so they can play along at their tempo.
You can have your upper level kids create these videos for your lower level students as well.
Jamie did you have any students whose parents would not let them come and pick up their instruments? If so, what did you do with them?
very impressive, Jamie
Seems like a lot of computer work, but once you create the first google doc, you reuse it and just copy and paste the content.
Thank you, Jamie!
Go Martin Team! Fantastic!
Thanks Jamie that was all great!
That was great Jamie!

Thanks for sharing, Jamie. I am so impressed with what is happening at Martin!

Thank you Diane!
YES! Thank you, Diane; well said.
Thank you, Diane!
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. These are all great. If you are using CANVAS, could you export a lesson to the COMMONS, please?
@Brett, I’ll look at our lessons and export what I can.
Here's the class I showed at the beginning - hopefully you can see the lessons in Modules
@Samuel I think my students and I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much!
What great ideas everyone!
I would also love to do some research on the cost of leaving those live performance videos up. Royalties, etc.
Matt - ASCAP is overwhelmed right now, but I am looking into that for TODA info
They did give me a name so I can discuss about this
Glad to know. Perhaps that could be a part of our next conversation in this forum
Eraser dust is a place in El Paso.
D'Addario stickers for specific instruments?
Yes, TMEA can create one.
we use painters tape with different colors..not as cool but something
Yes, D’Addario’s stickers are great! They are round and large enough to use for that.
They make colored carpet circles for elementary schools….? https://www.amazon.com/Markers-Classroom-Preschool-Kindergarten-Teachers/dp/B07Y2Q5BPR/ref=sr_1_28?dchild=1&keywords=floor+spots+music&qid=1593730458&sr=8-28
So All Region will be recorded now?
Hey @Kay Vanlandingham, did you have leftover "IT STARTS WITH MUSIC" stickers?
I received a message today from my DFA that UIL has recommended summer activities be suspended until July 13th and possibly beyond. We have been told to cancel.
Yes, will we have a session to review how we will address Region recordings?
Sorry, no more It Starts With Music stickers. :(
I am thinking about moving my classes to the cafeteria
Thank you Michael. So many great ideas which will be very helpful. Good luck to everyone.
I'm SO excited about virtual TODA!!!! <3
Thank you, Michael and Danielle!!
Thank you everyone
THANK YOU Michael & TMEA for having these meetings! I appreciate the info!
Can I just say how grateful I am that Michael, Brian and Danielle are leading our organizations during this extremely trying time? I appreciate your strong leadership. I'm sure this has NOT been easy!
Thanks so much to all our awesome leadership!
Yes! Thank You Leadership!!!
Just wanted to add that the majority of the sessions in the TODA Virtual Convention will have a moderated chat during the session. So there is an interactive component. Very exciting!
Thank you Michael!
Rodrigo Pessoa de Almeida
Can someone share a link to get D’Addario’s stickers?
Thank you, Sixto. Looking forward to it! And THANK YOU, Michael for coordinating this meeting.
